A good chicken egg can hold up to about 60 pounds of pressure longitudinally, less laterally.

It depends on the egg, of course. Is it a spaarow's egg? An emu's egg? You might as well ask how long is a piece of string. But it will take less energy to crack an egg laterally than it will longitudinally.

Side on = between 24 and 34 newtons
