stop tap ! where your mains water comes into your property. you should find it usually in the kitchen under the sink, but it could be anywhere, you should have one outside too look for a small metal square lid about 5 inch square, this may be a zone valve and turning off there could affect neighbours water supply, your stop tap should be easily accessible though its just a matter of finding it.

In the kitchen it is nomally under the sink but to be sure of shutting off water for any repairs, there should be a tap by your meter if you have one fitted. If not then check with your neighbour who will probably have a better idea

Need more info. If none available, then turn clockwise. If dripping when in the closed position, then take a wrench and give the cover nut a slight turn to tighten. If still dripping, turn of water, remove handle, cover nut, and stem by turning counter clockwise, replace the rubber washer at the end of the stem and put back together!
