My wife wants me to get one. I feel pressured to do it even though I don't really want to. My reason, I've just heard horror stories about it hurts, it might not work, it gets infected, i don't want a man with a knife touching me, i don't want a woman with a knife touching me, etc...I don't plan on ever having more kids but I don't want to feel like I'm a dog and am getting clipped either know what I mean? What to do?

You need to look at this from your family's perspective: can you financially afford another child, now or in the future? Will your home accommodate another child? The reason I'm saying this is that you really need to consider the rest of your family--most importantly your wife and her concerns. It is my understanding that vasectomy's can be reversible. So, I suggest you get it done. If, in the future, you and your wife decide to have another child, it will be an option for you to consider. But, right now think of what your wife is asking of you. Think of what it will do for your relationship. It is something that you can get done in one day, versus if your wife has to get it done, she will be in the hospital for about 4 days. She will also have a much more difficult time with recovery--similar to having a c-section-8 weeks. As for you, you go home with a bag a frozen peas. Just think about the whole picture. (I'm thinking it will turn your wife on to know that YOU did that for her, after she gave birth to your children.)

Well it is your body, do what you want. But it really isn't that bad of a procedure. It's not major surgery, it lasts a half hour and you get to go home the same day. The stitches will go away after 3-10 days. Or you can get a no-scalpel vasectomy which requires no stitches at all. The only thing you should feel is some slight tugging.

The say Vasectomy may be the safest, most effective kind of birth control. Only about 15 out of 10,000 couples get pregnant the first year after a vasectomy.

There are a few risks that include infection, bleeding and an inflammatory reaction to sperm that may have gotten loose from sugery.

After you have healed from the vasectomy...there should be no change in sex drive, you'll ejaculate the same amount of semen.

It's a very simple procedure, and if you really don't want kids, and have carefree sex with your wife for the rest of your life together, it'd be the best thing. Compared to the major (and sometimes life threatening) surgery she'd have to get, it's basically nothing.

But, if you feel strongly about not getting one, talk to your wife and discuss other options. She may be up for getting her tubes tied, but just remember there is more risk for her to get that done than for you to get a vasectomy. If neither of you want to have anything permanantly done, then get birth control, use a condom.. etc. Eitherway, your wife should be as respectful to your own feeling about this as you should be about hers.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

If you don't want any more kids, then I really don't see the problem. As for horror stories, we've all heard horror stories about giving birth, yet your wife went through it!

However, if you do want more kids in the future (and its your wife that doesn't), I would say don't get it done. The way I look at it is if anything happened to your wife and kids, would you want to remarry and have more kids?

I think it is the responsibility of the person who no longer wants kids. My hubby knows I want more, so if he doesn't, then he's the one that has to have the op!

I say that its your body and you shouldn't get a vasectomy if you don't want one. If your wife and you do not want anymore children then she should get on birth control. One the other hand I have a friend who had a vasectomy and he says its the best thing hes done. Even though it was a little painful he saids its a relief to know that hes not going to get his wife pregnant when they don't want another baby. I hope this helped good luck

You need to get one because you are ready and want one. If you dont feel comfortable dont do it yet. Just make sure that you take precaution and dont have an unplanned pregnancy because it sounds like you and your wife are done having kids. As far as the vasectomy most guys say that it is no big deal.

It works two ways. Is there any problem if she went with tubal ligation?

Why mess with your organs? Is it not possible to try other means of contraception? Condoms, IUDs, rythmn method, Abstain during the fertile time, etc.

A lot depends on the individual and any action taken should be voluntary and the action must surely be agreeable to both parties.
