I think you need to give a bit more information such as how exactly did you lose your job and how many years have you been living here. Best advice, as above, is visit a Citizen's Advice office which I think are online too.

You can do no better than go to the unemployment office and register and they will explain all your rights.
generally if you go in there with a sensible attitude and not a demanding one you will get a sensible result

If you have a legal right to work in this country then you have a right to claim unemployment benefit, especially if it wasn't your fault that you lost your job.
