We fostered a couple of teenagers. One was being physically beat up by her step father(came to us with black eye and bloodied lip) while the other just had screaming matches with her mother to the point my daughter said how about you come stay with us for awhile?
Many a time the teenager is fed up with the parents life style.. its really true.. in our cases the parents were drinking/drugging all the time and the teen wanted away from that garbage. Our fosters are adults now and all are doing well either college and a good job or marriage with kids. They learned parents don't have to be mean or drunk/druggin', but they were disciplined and given boundaries and they wanted that in their life. (sometimes when someone other than their parents give them limitations they accept it. That is why in colonial times apprenticeships worked, the teens left their own home, learned a trade and learned from another adult other than their folks, not many rebellious teens in colonial times ;-)

Usually it's because they don't understand their parents telling them what to do. Also, could be the rebellious nature of the average teenager who thinks the know everything and never listens to the parents.

Could also be an abusive parent or parents that can drive a teen away from home.

Many teens live on the streets in a homeless situation, turning to drugs, sex, with older people in order to survive. It's really a bad situation for them.

Many end up dead, in jail or prison for numerous reasons. Rarely do they succeed in life.

Abuse, neglect, broken home, mental health/emotional issues, alcoholic/drug addicted parents, the reasons are numerous. Unless they have somewhere safe to go it's almost guaranteed they'll end up being exploited by someone, or worse. Always better to try to work things out, unless they're not safe (as in being abused) at home. My heart bleeds for every child who isn't Loved and cared for.

their hormones. my son tried that crap with me and left for a week. even though he called me everyday to let me know he was alive(how thoughtful right?), he realized that he was better off at home. sometimes you just have to let them figure things out one their own. some kids probably should run away from home because its real bad. but if all your parents want from you is to go to school and actually do your homework, maybe take out the trash once in a while and clean your room, than get over yourself already.
