My friend had theirs slashed twice - I think once was someone trying to break in and the other time appeared to be just for the hell of it - maybe out of jealousy?

Hey Lottie, The only drawback is having to leave the darn thing in the up position! There is nothing like the feeling of the wind in your hair the sun on your face and the unobstructed 360 degree view of the world. My latest drop top is a 32 year old 450 sl. True i only drive it in the warm weather, because I live in New England, Get out your sense of adventure, a baseball cap and some sun glasses A big smile will follow. Put your valuables in the trunk and go have some fun. This is life, not a rehearsal. You go girl!!!!

Easily damaged, much colder in winter (it doesn't hold the heat in as well.) Don't bother locking the car, people will just slash the roof to get in (never leave valuables in view!) Expensive to repair, tend to leak after a while, lots of wind noise, can't leave snow on it (the weight can stretch the roof so that is sags all the time, or even cause it to split.) Car is also not as rigid (the roof is a structural component in most cars), so rattles will show up much earlier than in regular cars. Also not as strong in case of an accident - and heaven forbid you actually roll it over!

Yes. They are noisy, hard to keep warm in the winter, and can be easily opened with a stanley knife, and are therefore expensive to repair / replace. Also, if you haven't got the luxury of an expensive electric fold down job, they are a pain in the butt to close in a sudden rain shower. Apart from that, they are cool in the summer!

Unless you have a good protected garage, it will not last long in the UK.

Besides which, the thermal protection on soft tops is not good, so you are going to freeze in the winter.

(That's unless it just happens to be your third car and the weekend Z5 of course)

My cousin had one and she stupidly left a load of valuables in it. The roof got slashed and every thing got stolen. That's one drawback, but so is being daft enough to leave thing on display inside.

Other than the things mentioned by others,if something falls on top of your car, there is no protection for you or passengers.
Same for rollovers.
