go to start > run and type " msconfig " hit enter , under sartup tab , there is the list of all programs, running in the background at startup, untick the ones you suspect are naughty, and hit OK, then reboot. !
You are welcome !

I recommend the use of the Windows startup manager http://www.neosoft-tools.com/windows-startup-manager.htm
It disables any startup programs and fully controls startup by selecting the programs to be launched, while customizing the startup settings (ie how often and when programs should be launched, etc).

don't know if it's the same with ME but if you go to start>run and type in msconfig you can goto the startup tab and stop the programs you don't want to run at start up. make sure you don't stop anything you need though

every program has "options" menu or "prefrences" menu in it.
just try to get in n there will always be an option available
"show at startup" or "run automatically when i log in windows". just remove ur checkbox frm it n u're done.
