It is Steve Waugh, considering today's comepetitive cricket played by all teams in the world. Where as in Clive Lloyd's period the West Indies team was the undisputed King of world cricket.
Where as Steve waugh's men stunned the world by winning the world cup after being beaten badly on the preliminary stages.

They belonged to entirely different generations (periods).

But Steve Waugh had the mind and nerves of steel. Other captains have had more success than Steve. But Steve was a complete leader - hard outside, soft inside.

well as far as clive llyod is concerned we are talking of a legend...........but when it comes to captaincy........i think steve waugh is a much better captain....because clive llyod captained that team which was full of match winners ..but steve waugh captained that team which emerged from a match winners to world champions..... captaining and winning the side with the good players is easy but developing the match winners in the team is captains job.therfore i think steve waugh is a better captain.

Ricky Ponting - He has lead Aussies to victory everywhere , he is aggressive ( sometimes , though a bit too much ) , puts opposition under a lot of pressure, bats very well even under pressure.

But yes if you are talking about comparison between Lloyd and Steve Waugh in particular , I think it is difficult to compare them . Recordwise and period wise , Lloyd was a successful captain over a longer period of time , lead his Team to a high number of Test and ODI triumphs, led his team to victory in 1975 and 1979 World Cups and to the Final in 1983 WC.

Steve Waugh too was a successful captain , but in a different period in which amount of cricket played was higher .
