.... because I love Star Trek?
I love Next Generation the best (it's got Data!), but the original is disimilarliy fantastic(it's got William Shatner! And Leonard Nimoy! And George Takei! I could go on...)
Voyager is pretty damn awesome also.
I don't really like DS9 though... and no self respecting star trek fan would like "Enterprise"
I've never been to a convention... but I'd probably go to one.
Oh my god... you don't even have to answer. I already know!
Aaah, but if loving Star Trek is wrong, I don't want to be right.

it's not nerdy. I live in Nigeria, Africa where the intellectual watches the Cosby show (not even star trek). And though i am a known fan of Star Trek, Carl Segan and Terry Gillian style movies, my friends still managed to nickname me Boogie ( cos of my partying exploits ). Make no mistake "nerd" is all in your and their minds, while what you are is what YOU call reality.

We all have our little problems and mine seems to be liking the movie 'True Lies' as every time a question is asked about your favourite movie and I answer with 'True Lies' I get heaps of thumbs down. I guess I am a nerd as well for my movie choice.
I also would mind a few hours with Jonny Depp when most people would rather Orlando Bloom. AH sad sad creature I am!

I've got news for you, you are wrong. As in, loving Star Trek is wrong, and that is what you do.
Then again, I love ST:TNG myself (never got into the others though). I also met the guy who played Chekov but he was a jerk.
