US domestic spending on house pets (cats and dogs basically) will eclipse $34B (billion) dollars annually

People are crazy about their pets and spend an incredible amount of money on not only the care and feeding of them, but also on non-essential items like toys, snacks, grooming, and clothing.

So, is it crazy to think that a dog bakery is a crazy idea? Absolutely not. In fact it's a growing market segment that plays on two key attributes of pet owners 1) wanting to keep their pets happy (giving them treats) 2) wanting to keep them healthy (giving them good treats).

Most (not all) store bought treats have some amount of filler in them that the manufacturers will tell you is not harmful to the animal. Filler is cheap, filler makes the biscuits bigger, and filler adds profit to the bottom line.

Some pet owners don't like the idea of Fido eating "non-essential" things so they look for natural products (made by niche companies) that provide simple wholesome ingredients, hence you get all sorts of dog bakeries popping up.

There's a number of web resources that will give you recipes, equipment, and even franchise opportunities should you decide this is a business for you.

I have family members that use a local pet bakery and they swear by it. The products are fresh and the dogs love them. The fact that they pay 2-3x what they would for a box of biscuits at the store doesn't phase them in the least.

I don't know but it sounds like a good idea. Dogs are not very finicky.
