Do you remember the bombings in the mid and late 90s around South Africa and Cape Town in particular. They were pipe bombs that exploded in St. Elmos - Camps Bay, Planet Hollywood - V&A Waterfront, New York Bagels - Sea Point etc. etc.

Did they ever catch the responsible people?
What was it all about?
Was it only in predominantly European areas?

There have been many arrests but only been a few successful convictions. The bombings were the work of PAGAD (People Against Gangsterism and Drugs), a vigilante group, consisting mainly of muslims. Whilst it started as a militant group aimed at combatting crime, it showed its extremist Islamic tendencies by targetting US businesses and gay bars. You can read about PAGAD here.
