Is it selfish and discriminating for homophobes
to deny marriage for homosexuals?
Is it wrong for me to accept homosexuals
and other people? If God loves and cares
for everything and everyone he created,
then what happens if some of his followers don't?Will it actually be a bad thing
if homosexuals had equal rights like
everyone else? The reason it bugs me
is because I see a bunch of hateful
and disrespectful questions towards
homosexuals who don't deserve it.
To me,I believe I'm the only straight
person on here who actually accepts
homosexuals and wish they had
equal rights like the rest of us.
If I am,I don't mean to insult.
I expect to see some serious, mature and
respectful answers.I'm serious here,
if I see any gay-bashing,you will be reported,
because I've had it.Everytime I see
a gay-bashing question or answer,it truly burns me up.

It could be selfish, but it's definitely un-American. True Americans traditionally mind their own business, although we've always had a busy-body faction (the Puritans come to mind) who make it their business to intrude into everyone else's bedroom.
Eventually the reasonable middle ground of American opinion prevails, and the values of our Founders, who are famous for saying, 'Don't Tread on Me' returns.

i was going to answer but how to do it without being reported.well first I am not a basher. what people do in private is their own business. marriage has been traditionally between a man and woman in the US and has been for many years. I am opposed to gay marriages sanctified by the clergy for my own reasons that i will not discuss here (and you know why) Since a good portion of the US is christian and gay marriages go against christianity-good luck in winning that battle. Note that I did not say "most" or give a percentage as to the number of christians in the US. I remember a time when you never heard of these kinds of things. I hate being politically correct and make it a point not to be whenever I can. But these days you cannot voice an opinion without someone taking offense because they just got bashed. In
my opinion (and you will think I am bashing) I think that homosexuals, well its almost like they want to be segregated. I recently heard of the gay olympics. now if the heteros called the olympic games the Staight Olympics the gay world would be in an uproar. Why is that? I think your question is a little unfair and biased. You only want answers that agree with you.Frankly there is just a little too much more going on in the world for me to really care about Gay rights. If ya'll get your rights-then fine I will respect that but I dont need or want anyone telling me what I can oppose and what I cant. There are plenty of people out there whose rights have been trampled. Oh and by the way God did not create homosexuals. I wont say it was the devil but it sure wasn't the lord.. I didnt bash anyone, I just offered my opinion and if I get reported for that...well then ya'all can kiss my buttocks.

I'm straight, and I agree with you about gay bashing being unacceptable. Homosexuals should have the same rights to marriage as everyone else. NO< "Christians" did not invent marriage and I'm sick of them claiming so. marriages have been happening all over the world and in every culture and religion since the beginning of humans. Christians don't have a patent on marriage.

I agree with everything you're saying. A lot of people take their hate and anger out on public internet forums like yahoo because it's a lot easier to lynch somebody when you've got a sheet over your head, know what I mean? I doubt that most of the loudest, most vitriolic haters on the internet would have the balls to stand on a street corner and say out loud what they type in a forum. Just take heart - you aren't the only person out here that truly loves their neighbor regardless of race or sexual orientation or religion.
To answer your question though, it is selfish for straights to deny marriage to homosexuals. I say "straights" rather than "homophobes" because even supposedly gay-friendly politicians often jump the fence when the marriage issue arises. The kind of crap arguments I hear most frequently remind me of the rhetoric that was spouted about disallowing non-whites the vote.
I think that everyone should be able to marry whomever they want to marry, and I think that my brother and his partner have every right to be as miserable as I was during my 3-year marriage. ;) To anyone who says "sanctity of marriage" I say, "50 percent divorce rate". Economically, it would be a boon for the country - think of all the money that would be generated by non-straight couples having lavish weddings and registering for gifts just like straight people do! And married people get screwed on their taxes (trust me, there is no such thing as a "marriage credit" unless you have kids). Plus marriage license fees, and court costs, and lawyer fees for the pre-nup or when it doesn't work out... only a blind, bigoted fool would disagree with that power shot of cash flowing into our struggling national coffers. Heck, don't we have wars to wage with that tax money?

I honestly feel that a huge part of it comes down to a lack of both understanding and empathy.
Most people who have strong anti-gay feelings probably don't have many gay friends in their lives, so they have no reference point from which to realize that most gay people are perfectly normal, healthy people just trying to live out their lives like everyone else.
The sad part is that their own hatred makes it very unlikely that they will ever have any gay friends (or, rather, that any of their closeted gay friends will ever come out to them), so the cycle continues.
Often, the only way their views change is if someone they love and respect turns out to be gay and has the courage to come out to them, despite their prejudices. Barring this, there is often little opportunity for them to reevaluate their opinions on the issue, since their only exposure to the GLBT community is through very extreme examples they see in the media, which don't accurately reflect most GLBT people.

Why do we look towards politicians for their approval of our relationships?
Seriously here.
What difference does it make to have that piece of paper from the gvmt?
There is no reason to look at the gvmt to sanction a union between two people.
Why do people have such dependence on the gvmt to run their lives?

I'm not a homophobe, but I am against same-sex marriage.
Our Creator established rules governing marriage long before governments began regulating the institution. The opening book of the Bible tells us: “A man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24) The Hebrew word “wife,” according to Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words, “connotes one who is a female human being.” Jesus confirmed that those yoked together in marriage should be “male and female.”—Matthew 19:4.
Thus, God intended marriage to be a permanent and an intimate bond between a man and a woman. Men and women are designed to complement each other so they may be capable of satisfying each other’s emotional, spiritual, and sexual needs and desires.
God clearly states that marriage is a bond between a man and a woman.
If God wanted men to marry men and women to marry women. Why did he make both and not just men or women?
Why are men and women they only ones that can make a child together?
Why do men and woman have sexual organs that are made for eachother?
It's not just based religion....it's also logic.

No, it is not acceptable to carry prejudice against homosexuals; I do not however, equate gay-bashing with disapproval of homosexual marriage. There are rational, secular arguments against homosexual marriage. One persuasive argument for instance is that the primary function of marriage is to help preserve society by providing a stable environment to conceive and raise children. It remains unclear what impact legally recognized homosexual marriage would have on marriage as an institution for rearing children.

Marriage is between a man a woman.PERIOD. There are couples not married that are man and woman and can't get each other's medical insurance and what not but gays can? I am sorry,I have NO problem with the way anyone lives their lives. If your gay your gay,I wouldn't treat ya any different. But I don't believe it's right for marriage. And I hope to god it NEVER is allowed in my state!

it's sad to see people who are homophopes and i do agree with you that homosexuals should have equal rights as the straight people. they are humans too. every person in this world is created by the creator so they claim but we can't help it to see these people discriminating homosexuals.
i hope there is a law punishing these people who are discriminating homosexuals.
