People are selfish and have more attachement towards their childrens and wants to see them happy after marriage and are compromising by giving dowry out of fear and for staus,dignity etc. So to stop the dowry system we required willingness rather than law.

There is law in india preventing dowry. But unless the people desire not to give and take dowry, this cannot be eliminated from society. Society as a whole, should adhere to certain norms not only in dowry, even other matters of pomp and show in marriages, unnecessary expenditures in other celebrations, bringing down the population figures, minimum degree level education for everyone irrespective of caste, religion or mother tongue, duly considering the well-being of the nation. Unless everyone decides or atleast the majority, things cannot change on its own.

The dowry system must be stopped because money must be chanelled to build-up the marriage instead of spending it on non-useful things.

dowry system is related to demand & supply system of economic if you demand perticular boy he will increase his rate (dowry) but this is started by girls side to choose the best boy, that is wrong if all the parents of girls have final to stop the dowry system than autometicly boys parents will come down(dowry) due to non-demond otherwise we will blame to eachother and problem will not shortout.every boy and girl made by god for eachother dont play with them. every yellow metal is not gold so dont try to change the rules of god.

only women can stop it.. if a man ask dowry then the girl shud not marry her.. this will help in preventing dowry system..
Field studies in Karnataka and West Bengal have also focused on empowering women through land ownership. RDI research in both states has indicated that:
Women comprise a disproportionate share of the landless
and rarely hold legal rights to land;
The oppressive practice of dowry is integrally linked with women’s
inferior access and rights to land; and
Providing women with legal rights to land will increase their status
and social and economic security.
Based on these findings, RDI is working with Indian counterparts to advance recommendations aimed at enhancing women's access and rights to land. Such recommendations include changing state legislation to require government-distributed land to be granted jointly to husbands and wives or independently to women. RDI is working actively in West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh to research and promote such measures.

Legislation cannot change the attitude of the people. There will be loop holes in every legislation. The attitude of the people must change. In the present 'consumer culture' there is no chance for change of attitude of the people. Actually the 'media' is also playing key role in creating and promoting high standard living among the people. People are fascinated by the mariage advertisements in news papers, magazines, internet etc. and they are tempted to spend money lavishly for marriage even by borrowing money just for show.
