I'd like to know your opinion on being gay. I'm not gay myself, but I just want to know. I am Catholic so everyone tells me being gay is wrong and against God and that it says so in the bible. But then many people say that being gay is totally acceptable and that it's just part of life. I think that Catholics are probably off because while they say in the bible it states God wanted "man and woman" to be together (nothing about man/man, woman/woman) they also say you shouldn't take the bible too literally since it was written long ago. I think we shouldn't discriminate anyone whether they are gay, straight, or bi, and so really I don't care if it's "against God". I even have an uncle thats gay and he's pretty cool. He doesn't dress like a woman or talk high-pitched or any of the stereotypical gay things you see people on tv and movies doing. So what are your views on being gay, whether you're gay or not?

Sorry to give you such a long answer, Legs, but I wanted to share it with you because of your religious background. I hope it helps you.

Perhaps the best way to think of this is to imagine that while you were growing up, you gradually began to realize that you were not attracted to members of the opposite sex, but instead to members of your own. Now imagine that you are a religious person and that your church, parents, and everyone else around you have told you your whole life -- since even before you felt these feelings -- that this is sinful and wrong.

Naturally, you find this frightening, confusing, and isolating. You've never even met a gay person before, and haven't really heard much about it on TV or anywhere else. As you're going through high school, you wonder who you can possibly talk with to discuss what you are experiencing. You develop a sense of paranoia, trying hard to keep anyone from finding out your secret, while thinking that you're probably alone in your feelings. You keep trying to date members of the opposite sex, in the hope that it will kindle something inside you or change you somehow. It doesn't.

You go off to a religious college and wind up in counseling there for a couple of years to try to cure yourself of this through behavioral therapy and lots of prayer... asking God every night to help you change. Maybe even falling asleep some nights crying, wondering why you were made this way, why you can't seem to change, and why God doesn't seem to want to help you to change. You begin to question whether a God could even exist if he would choose to make you a living "abomination," as you've heard some people say. Meanwhile, you have persistent headaches and other problems due to all of the stress this is causing you.

This whole process continues every day for about 7 years.

Then, imagine that you gradually realize that maybe there is a purpose in all of this. Maybe you were actually made this way for a reason. After much prayer and meditation, you begin to see that despite what you've been told, God has a plan for you and that you were made gay because, for whatever reason, it will help you be a better person to others. You begin to realize that all of this turmoil and stress has actually made you a better person than you might otherwise be, because you now feel much more empathy towards others for whatever problems they might be experiencing in their lives.

As you begin to accept who you are and thank God for it, you begin to be able to care more about other people and help them with their own problems. The headaches, stress, and other problems disappear. Because of what others have told you your whole life, you doubt that you will ever find someone who shares your religious beliefs and also happens to be gay, but you still have a sliver of hope.

Then, one day when you least expect it, in a situation so random it defies all probability, you meet someone who loves God as much as you do, cares as much about other people, and wants to help you develop into the best person you can be -- just as much as you want to help that person develop into the best person they can be. Everything about this person is better than you had ever hoped possible. It's one of the happiest moments you've ever experienced. You and that person stay together for years, sharing life together, settling down, and functioning as a family. Welcome to my life.

Christians in general are the only ones who seem to be strongly against it and causing such a big scene about it. In counties where gay marriage is allowed, it is no big deal to be gay or even for a needy adopted child to be raised by gay parents. The truth is that this is an issue that straight people should have no say in since it does not affect them. I don't go around saying that people in California should have a smoking ban when I live in Illinois.

"If it wasin't a sin and people were born that way...why would people think it's a sin in the first place then? If it was wasin't a sin, it would of never been brought up as a sin."

Aaaand, that's where you lost me. What with your COMPLETE LACK OF LOGIC and all. Sorry animeneko (if that IS your real name), but you're an idiot. People make things a sin because they're scared and want control over other people's lives.

If I said "Having brown hair is a sin in the eyes of my god, Zaurak the Destroyer. All who do not dye their wicked and sinful brown hair shall burn for eternity!" you would call me batshit insane.

But, according to YOUR logic, having brown hair would be sin, because if it wasn't, I never would have brought it up in the first place. Do you see the flaws in your sad, pathetic, so called "logic"?

As for the original question, I'm on the side that love is love. As long as it's between consenting adults, have at it! Discriminating against someone because of their sexual orientation is disgusting. It's a sick manifestation of the desire to dominate another person's life, a fear and unwillingness to understand that
which is different, and the continuation of thousands of years of oppression, persecution, and intolerance just because that's what you were told as a child and you're too ignorant to think for yourself.

Thanks for the insults and generalizations! I fairly admire the adulthood of your query. "The bible is stuffed with contradictions, as is the humans who comply with it. The bible additionally says to not devour shellfish and to not put on combined materials. You humans fairly decide upon and decide upon. The bible is old-fashioned, besides. Plus, our nation is stuffed with special religions - why will have to one be the pass judgement on?" Yes, it does say that. Because again then it was once dangerous to take action due to the fact shellfish devour feces. It wasn't an ethical dilemma, it was once for wellness functions. Anyway, you become aware of that you are asking why homosexual humans can not perform a devout rite as a result of humans's devout ideals? How does that make experience? You're pronouncing faith should not be concerned in a devout rite. Why do you desire to be married for those who consider The Bible is old-fashioned? Tell that to a clergyman then ask him how he feels approximately homosexual marriage. "The scientists disagree with you, and so do all folks homosexual people. Of path, you are gonna say we are mendacity. But we aren't. Ask any homosexual individual - we can not support who we are drawn to. It's under no circumstances been a option. Animals are homosexual too, so it needs to be utterly typical." Yeah, 5 animals are homosexual. You've no longer spotted that it is a HUGE tale whilst animals do homosexual matters? That's for the reason that it isn't typical, it is infrequent. Animals lick their crotches too, however we do not consider that is typical. I agree that homosexuality is not a option, however it isn't genetic. It's most of the time the best way you have been raised. I do not fairly care approximately this one for the reason that the naturalness of gayness is not my cause for arguing with you. "The dictionaries are all exchanging their definitions of marriage (due to the fact 2000). Times are exchanging, and definitions are being adjusted. How matters are outlined is continuously exchanging as time progresses. You can not preserve phrases from evolving." They're no longer speakme approximately dictionaries. They're speakme approximately the Bible. Besides, cross to google and style in "Define: marriage". Look on the first definition. Why does the dictionary definition topic besides? It's no longer like legislation are made in keeping with the dictionary. This is not approximately marriage or love. This is approximately taxes. If 2 gays desire to get married, they may be able to discover a church that wishes to preserve it and get married. You may not be arrested. The handiest change is that it may not be identified by means of regulation. If it was once real approximately love then you would not care if it was once identified. And the cause that directly marriages get tax breaks is that they're assumed to be establishing a household and the govt.. is making an attempt to make it somewhat less difficult for them. How is that this a query? You're simply watching for a host of humans to mention "Yeah Republicans suck" are not you?

"As long as two people love each other, I don't think God cares if they have the same hoo-hoo or ha-ha."
-Marge Simpson

If gays are going to hell, then I guess I must be on my way there too, because I'm currently wearing a cotton-poly blend (Deut. 22:11). It's pathetic how these fundies selectively quote the bible.

There is more to a person than just his or her sexual preference, which I believe is not my business anyway. I have my faith and I believe in the Bible wherein it is says that only God has the right to judge. Ultimately, it's how we live our lives.

whoever says gay is wrong is very shallow really
i mean love isn't about sex, age, race or religion.
I'm not gay but i have some gay friends, they don't try to hit on me and i don't make fun of them about it.
they acctually nicer than straight friends because they tell you whats hot and whats not.
Point is, gay, straight, we all humans and in the end the only difference is who and what we love and hate.

never mind the senseless idiots who agree with being gay. i just read Leviticus 20:13 and God said it is wickedness of man lying with man, and that they should be put do death. its their life and if they wanna die because of going against God's will, let it be. letting gays getting married is full of evil. im srry, but getting "equal rights" in america is making this world full of evil as well. its just like saying "any living thing should marry who they love[meaning even if its animal and human]" i swear if america allows man and animal marry i dont know what will happen.
