The ocean is a great place to have the SH-T scared out of you, I have seen the Atlantic get a bit "Grouchy", and it is very scary, I agree. I like fishing, I like the Bay over the ocean, we chartered a boat once, and the captain was talking with us, as one of my co-workers pointed at me and said to the captain "He's afraid of the ocean", the captain snapped back "Then he's a very smart person, it's those that don't fear the ocean, that never come back, a wise man fears the ocean".

Couple of weeks ago a truck almost blew over on is - as we were overtaking it began to topple, managed to speed up and get clear just before it fell. Driver was unhurt and we were the last vehicle along the road as it was blocked for several hours after that. Pretty scary seeing 40 tons of metal descending towards you.
Last year in Africa I was stood under an awning in an incredibly violent thunderstorm. Lightning striking all over the place and non stop thunder. There was an almighty crash and intense flash, I couldn't see or hear for about 15 seconds. Don't know what the lightning struck but all the windows were blown in - lucky we'd gone outside.
Several years ago on a frozen mountain plateau we were in 145mph winds. I was squat on the ground, back into the wind, crampons (spikes on boots) dug into the ice and an ice axe braced across my chest. The wind picked me up and carried me about 200 metres. I ended up amongst a pile of rocks, apart from torn clothing and a chipped hip-bone I was fine. Another hundred metres and I'd have been blown over high cliffs. That was an interesting experience.

I've been surfing for 12 years, and I bodyboarded for 7 years before that. I've only been scared once: When I got hammered by a huge set...one right after the other. Every time I came up for air, I was pushed down again. I almost drowned; it was pretty freaky. I got out after that, dried off, and sat on the beach and had a beer. I didn't surf at all the rest of the day, but I was back in the water the next day.

I went surfing when Hurricane Fredrick was dancing off the Gulf Coast for 10 days. Waves at the East Pass were about 18' , we all got one ride. It was terror and fun like I have never experienced again.
Opal was fun also.
Dennis or Dave I got caught on a 18' Hobie while about 7 miles offshore. Brought the boat in doing an easy 45k n 6' seas. That was wild. Yes I was truly scared on that journey.

The closest I've ever come to that sort of thing is when I was climbing a mountain and got caught in an afternoon thunderstorm. Lighting was hitting everywhere, and the hair on my head kept standing up. I thought for sure I'd be struck, or someone in our group would be. It's a miracle we weren't. We hiked off of the mountain in a pouring rain, but we were safe.

Oh definably, I get scared all the time.. but I am not in a section of the world where we have any drastic weather, only very severe thunder storms, and we have had to go to shelter several times, have seen tree's blown over.. but the worst was one time during a snow storm at night , it had snowed so hard that it was awesome, and it broke power lines., and everywhere you looked the sky was lit up. it looked like the end of the world.
there was these lights that looked like lightning, with blue and yellow lights shooting to the sky.. and I was really scared. never saw anything like that, it went on most all night, and what it was , was the power lines that was shooting off where thy touched together.. it was really beautiful in way, but very scary..

It is RARELY a one time deal... if you just forgive him and let it go... you are giving him a message that he can get away with this behavior. I think the minimum that you should do is to INSIST on counseling! Hitting you hard enough to knock you down... what if your head hit something and you DIE?? This is a SERIOUS matter... and verbal apologies and earrings are small compensation! Counseling at the very least.

I remember my first visit to Florida, we got stuck in one of the bad hurricanes that ripped through Orlando FLorida. A huge gate flew through the house, things were ripping off...It sounds like the house was screaming and trees were snapping. They obviously have no basement so you are fairly exposed to the elements. I was scared we were going to lose our lives that night.

yes indeed. Especially during the tsunamis period. It was like all of a sudden, big waves engulf the beach and lots of people lose thier home, their loved ones.
