My mom is needing to get a test done and she has been putting it off because she HATES to be put into a MRI machine.

If anyone has gone through it, what did you do to get over that trapped in feeling?

Thanks :)

yes, yes, yes

been there twice - for the total of 90 minutes

I kept my eyes closed & kept saying The Lords Prayer & Hail Mary back to back - non stop.
It worked.

Your Mum will be fine. Tell her to be positive!
A technitian will be communicating with your Mum all the time & she will be holding a panic button in her hand.

No- but as a person who has several in the last 2 years- due to a viral brain infection- if it helps to save your life by finiding the problem- you'd do it also- they have some open sided MRI machines- and they can offer you sedatives if needed

Yes, because I hate to feel like I' am trapped and enclose. It sucks because you can't move and everything feels tight and scary kind of like a coffin. Try getting an Open MRI machine, it is much better because it is open and airy, not constricting at all. Your mom will be fine.

It's quite daunting if you don't like small spaces. With MRI scans you get the added noise of the machine as well,Which can add to the anxiety.

My daughter had several and did fine with the MRI.

On the other hand my husband was in it and freaked completely out and the technician had walked in the other room for a min. when she came back in he was wiggling his self out of it.

They do have open MRI's now.

It sucks waiting for the person to come back. I just tried thinking of a song while it happened.
