I think it all depends on what the person wants. Did the girl want to forget? It's her life her choice.

Ethics are a matter of timing in a great many situations.
If you gave a girl a ruffie you could rape her and she would not remember it, but that would be illegal.
In that story the girl is raped but she wants to take propanolol an make the experience go away and that is possibly legal.
It is like the Andre Yates case. You can have an abortion if you tell the doctor you are stressed out, but if you get stressed out and kill your children on your own yu are a murderer or at least criminally insane.
Odds are they will revisit that case. I see the father giving the girl the pills anyway. Too little too late. What can you do to him? She wanted it. He gave it to her. Is it ethical? Right and wrong is purely subjective. Legal and illegal is a matter of law, is there any and what does it say.

She wasn't raped by him. She was a shy person and was trying to be more out going. The rabbi, probably thought it was a good idea to get them both naked in order for her to be comfortable. So, it is believed to be an assault.
She and her father, who is a psychiatrist wanted her to take the pill, but her mom didn't think that she should take it, that's why they ended up in court. I believed in the end the judge denied her claim and she wasn't able to take the pill.
Any way, is it ethical, I'm not sure, but I want to believe that it' s choice, but I agree, where does it end? What about those people who could not afford the pill, if it is an expensive pill?

Did she have a choice whether or not she was going to take the pill? So long as the decision was hers and there are no safety concerns I think it is perfectly ethical. It would never cross my mind that it is unethical because she might be hindering her creative abilities. In fact, i think that it is unethical of the lawyers to try and argue that the girl should not be permitted to take the pill.

Where would it stop? My mom died of cancer and was in a lot of pain, I want to forget. My dog got run over, I want to forget. I made a dork of myself at a party, I want to forget. How could a pill remove one bad memory and not remove anything else? Remember that beautiful sunset in Maui? No, no I don't.
It is a tough questions. There are some things that you wish you didn't know.

Who is the legal guardian and is the girl competent or incompetent? It really depends on the girl's competency level of understanding and how this experience would have effected her overall well being.

I would say its up to her. She should be fully informed of pros and cons. If she were my daughter I certainly would have no problem with it. Might take one myself.
