So they can control entry in case of power outage or other emergency. Consider Katrina.

There are many reasons. What if something happened and the store had to close up even for a few minutes. How would they keep people from entering possibly into a dangerous situation where it would even be dangerous for someone to man the doors to keep people out? Just because today they are opened 24 hours doesn't mean they will always be opened 24 hours. Some stores have more than one entrance and in the late evening/early morning hours must restrict the entrance/exit to one set of doors to allow the smaller amount of staff to keep an eye on traffic flow and prevent loss. You wouldn't want to try to open a broken door and have it fall on you so the door is locked for everyone's safety.

They do take some holidays off. Usually Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day. Our local 24 hour store locks their one set of doors at 11:00 pm and has the public come and go through one door.

some doors came with the locks and before they said "where going to be open 24/7" they could of had a closing time and had to lock the doors. Just take your time and think about it.

because they do close on some holidays. also in case of emergency, such as robbery, fire or a child gets abducted they can lock the store down so no one can get in or out.
