When I was looking for a teaching job a few years back, I tried web sites... I tried looking for ads in newspapers.... I tried everything anyone could think of.

Know what worked best for me? I picked up the phone and I called every district within 50+ miles of where I live. Most of the ones that were hiring didn't advertise in any public way.

Since most areas (depending on where you live) already have plenty of available applicants, many districts don't make it public knowledge that they're hiring. The ones that DO advertise on the paper and on the Internet are often (but not always) districts that pay less or offer less or are in "tough" neighborhoods.

Best bet-- call every disctrict's human resources office near you. Just my advice. :)

In my (public) district the job openings are posted online every Wednesday. They also post a hard copy in the district office itself. There is usually a big number of openings between April and June, and again in September.

Private schools often post their job openings on their websites, although I have seen private school job offerings in teacher magazines.

Our county office of ed also has annual job fairs for K-12. You can contact yours and find out when they offer job fairs.

Many districts do not sent their job openings to employment companies such as yahoo jobs...the best way to find a teaching job is to look at school district websites around you and contact human resources.

depends upon where you are looking. in ny there is a website (olas) that lists openings in many districts. otherwise, you can go directly to the district website (i.e. bellport central school district, ny). a lot of colleges also have free online job banks. check with your career development center. you can also look into job fairs. again do an internet search or s/w a career counselor. also, check the newspaper and monster.com.
