Rake is the angle in degrees of the forks in relation to a line drawn from steering neck to the ground (straight down) trail is a measurement of distance from the axle to that same line. A sport bike having a rake of 11 degees would have a much shorter trail than say a chopper with 45degrees of rake all of this relates directly to what they call the quickness of the steering or the effort needed to change the direction of travel hope all this helps

Rake is what the 'ol lady wants me to do BEFORE going for a nice fall ride. Trail is where the off-roaders ride.
