I'm glad somebody had the guts to ask this question. I was just wondering the same thing.

Plus, I see a lot of people spelling it "WOT"! What is wot?

Okay, and while we are on the subject of misspelled words. I'm tired of seeing people put the words a lot together. There is no such word as alot!

You know what else drives me crazy? Nobody can spell the word "weird." I know everyone has been taught "I before E" but really, it isn't that difficult to learn to spell the word when you use it so much!

I'm not even going to get started on how no one can use the spell checker built into the answer space!

It's short hand. And honestly, when you're typing or writing and need to get a point across quickly or jot down notes, there is nothing wrong with short hand. It's only in the professional or formal setting that correct grammar and spelling is needed.
