Currently, 2 minutes, till windows is loaded and I stop getting the wait cursor.

I want to know what most people say they'd put up with for a boot time on this kind of system?

I've heard some say that 45 sec is too long.

My old PC was almost the same, 512MB ram and 1.7Ghz. It also took about 2 minutes. If you want a faster boot time, try cleaning out the Startup Menu on your Program files list.

The boot up speed also depends on which OS you are using. Windows XP takes longer than 2000, 2000 little longer than 98, etc.

there could be an infinite number of factors affecting boot time, most likely is that you have too many programs loading at windows start (or viruses or spyware)

to find out how to speed up your boot time read this article

also get windows defender free from microsoft.com and use the software explorer feature to stop unnecessary programs from starting

While the CPU and memory will have some effect on load speed, it also depends on what is being loaded at start up. Each thing like virus checker, firewall, messenger program etc. etc. will extend the load time.

Depends on your speed of your Hard Drive what version of windows you have and what devices you have booting up.
