A single page cannot have a mean number of typing errors, it can only have a number of typing errors. If you have 8 pages with a mean of 4 typing errors per page you have a total of 32 typing errors. The calculation of a mean implies that there is a different number of errors on each page, although some pages may have the same number.

One expects to see 32 errors; that is the probable value of the mean taken over the 8 pages.

It is still the same mean. The mean is nothing else than the "average", if you want to see it in a certain way.
