Spectrophotometer is not falling under the category of Biotechnology alone. It is an instrument which can be used in Science to take measurements .It follows the princples of optical density ,Beer Lamberts law....which is closely associated with Physics .The making of the instrument is purely engineering with use of sensible science.so it science and technology combined.

A spectrophotometer is an instrument that measures intensity and wavelength of light. Spectrophotometers that can detect light in the uv spectrum can be used to quantify nucleic acid, a useful tool to biotechnoligists.

biotechnology normally refers to tech which interfaces with bio as in biological reactions being used to detect poisons or gases.
a spectrophotometer is not part of biotechnology having no organic parts.

It has most of it's uses in chemical analysis, but I am sure there are biotech applications for it as well. I'm sure there are spectrophotometer assays for proteins, enzymes, and other biotech related compounds.

if they r having trouble grasping this then get a dollar or something else that you can break up into 4 pieces. say with a dollar you would have 4 quarters. lay them on the table and tell them that all 4 makes a whole. take 2 away and that is 1/2 take one away and that is 1/4. Hope this helped.

its falls more into chemistry and physics but it can be used in biotech to analyze and measure certain compounds in a sample.. its in the name spectro (spectrum) photo (light) and meter (measure)... hope this helps...
