Most early Popes well into the Middle ages and indeed even in to Early Modern Times had their own appointed Astrologers.

The Early Christian Church used to practice Astrology in order to make sense of the Universe (just like everyone else did) and to help establish their authority (just like everyone else did) and to help prove they were right (just like everyone else did).

They mostly labelled everyone else as heretics when the "message" that the other guy was saying differed from that of the Church and when the other guy risked being more popular than the Church.

Basic childish politics really :-/

Here are three views from the early Church fathers. I tried to edit them down some. Is this the time frame you mean?

Such are the demons....I am not willing to worship stars.
-Tatian circa 160 ad

Astrologers should not even be mentioned..deserters from God..were likewise the discoverers of this curious art. No one should thereafter interpret any one's birth by the heavens.
-Tertullian circa 200 ad

...[astrologers] are more deserving of laughter than serious consideration....establishing that the futile art [astrology] is calculated both to deceive and blind the soul.
-Hippolytus circa 225 ad

Frowned upon any kind of fortune telling, but if you read the account of the birth of Jesus, the three wise men were astrologers who studied the stars for a sign.

Depending on the time frame and on what church you may ask about,it would be most likely be welcome as long as it does not interfere with the daily teachings and the individuals number one goal in life, to practice your own religion. The study of the stars and heavens combined to me seem most intertwined...Tom Science 4
