this depends on the mah size of the batteries. the bigger the number, the more run time you'll have and the less the less you'll have. the longer you leave it on, the more drain on the battery. the less you leave it on the less drain. but there is a problem then with charging. if you use the battery power a few hours a day, then recharge it, the life cycle of the battery is reduced greatly. but if you run the laptop battery down all the way or close to being dead and charge it, it will last the life span that it is supposed to. if you run the laptop off the ac power all the time then the battery is left in a complete charge state and will be fine also. if you are going to use battery power, then wait till the battery is almost dead then recharge it. when fully charged, the circuit in the charger will shut off as to not over charge the battery..

I'd recommend that if you leave your laptop plugging into the wall most of the day and don't travel with it that often, that you take your battery out and charge it once every two or three months.

The laptop should still be able to function just fine off the AC Adapter and it won't drain the batteries.

This question is bit tricky. Let me take this way, Yes it does effect, since if you running on your batteries, ofcourse it will drain off. But if you like you are plugged to AC power and then you use your laptop it won't matter. Why? Because when the battery is fully charged your laptop circuitry directly switches to direct AC current, in this case your batteries are not used.

Let me explain with Diagram.

ACPower--->Laptop Use

Not this situation:
ACPower--->Battery--->Laptop Use.

In the second scenario, ACPower doesnt charge your battery and your laptop using battery. When the batteries charged the circuitry of charging battery is switched off, and it runs directly runs on AC Power. In any case of failure in AC Power, the circuitry immediately switches to batteries...

Isnt simple, but did my best to answer you.

Hope you get it.

depends on ur settings and the age of the battery. a 6 cell would probably last you 1.5 hours to 2.5 MAX. a 9 cell ... probably 2.5 to 3.5 hours. without talking about the battery, laptop hard drives are small and thus, weak. you should try to keep it off when you arent going to use it for long periods of time.
