I'm looking into possibly getting a new laptop and Dell offers comparable systems configured with the following CPU options:

Intel® Core™ Duo T2250
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5200
AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-50
AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile Technology MK-36
Mobile AMD Sempron™ 3500+

I've read plenty of stuff on why the Core 2 Duo blows everything else out of the water in terms of performance and I'm not interested in reading biased opinions from Intel/AMD fanboys. All I'm concerned about is power consumption. Which of those choices will allow for the longest battery life in a notebook computer?

Here's a link comparing the power consumption of the Core Duo vs Core 2 Duo. http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2808&p=14

They are almost identical in power consumption. In most of the tests conducted they produced the same results. So between these two it comes down to performance. The Core 2 Duo has better performance with the same power consumption as the Core Duo.

Here's a link to power consumption with the Turon X2. http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=2856&p=9

You'll note that they compare the X2 to a Core Duo and find that generally across the board the X2 has the least power consumption which in turn favours battery life. With the above information in mind it's pretty clear that the Turion X2 has the least amount of power consumption between them all.

So if you're looking for a laptop that has the highest battery life and the least power consumption than the Turion X2 is what you want.

I hope this helps!

Core 2 Duo will be the best on power consumption, though only slightly better than Turion X2. Also keep in mind that about 95% of the literature on Core 2 Duo is about the desktop advantage, its advantage in the laptop world is not as big. So basically, if you are looking for the best for performance and power, get the Core 2 Duo, but if you are concerned about cost, the Turion X2 is a very good choice.

in all probability the middle 2 a million.5 will be highly on the fringe of the Turion a million.9 because the middle 2 can do more beneficial paintings in line with cycle than the Turion (and the middle 2 would also be slightly swifter). The center 2 Duo supplies you higher advantageous battery existence besides the undeniable fact that (assuming the different elements do not use more beneficial potential and both pcs have an similar length battery). the single with the Intel processor has a higher hardcontinual this can be an effective aspect and a fingerprint reader at the same time as the AMD would not look to have one (i have discovered a fingerprint reader to be impressive to have besides the undeniable fact that i does no longer opt for depending totally on that aspect). the tremendous issue i'd say will be what portraits each and each and every of them has, if the single with the middle 2 has Intel portraits it basically is not any solid for gaming (and if it don't have Intel portraits it is going to likely be) yet with AMD structures you need to be a lot more beneficial careful because different nVidia and aTi chips that bypass into AMD laptops are even worse than Intel portraits (and that is continually the cheapies which have the undesirable ones). From what i can tell decision a million will be both Intel integrated crap (besides the undeniable fact that the X3100 is the least worst Intel portraits chip ever) or a GeForce 8400 this can be an effective chip. the second one one looks to have an previous GeForce 6200 (besides the undeniable fact that you need to study) this can be slightly dated now and a google search for indicated dissimilar people unhappy with that diverse variety. As for Vista, at the same time as it is crap and must be prevented if in any respect plausible you possibly gained't get too a lot decision in the count number.

Core Duo .... the Core 2 Duo's have been very dissapointing when it comes to battery life ... I get longer battery life out of my 1st Generation Centrino 2GHz than I do out of my New Core 2 Duo 2GHz ... the Core 2 is a real powerhouse and does everything amazingly well ... but it sucks on battery life, I'm now looking at finding a Core Duo to replace the Core 2, cause battery life is also important to me

the core 2 duo is also the best for cooling, power consumption and price. this is due to the fact that intel core 2 du is the first processor to reach 65 nm smallest circuit (twice the size of a red blood cell) and less circuitry means faster electricity and less power! go with the core 2 (although amd is rumored to be working on a 45 nm processor due for the middle of the year if you want to wait)
