Is it normal to be stressed when starting a new job? Such as learning the new job, new people, new environment, getting used to new routine, and feeling overwhelmed? These kind of things are making me wanting to get quit, but it probably would be wrong move.
I was wondering if others ever go though this kind of stress and how they dealt with it.

With our American culture, full of salesmanship, I think I may have over sold myself at the interview, but I am very sure my competitions have done the same, and yet for some reason my employer chose me over others......

I think it may be true that employer's need for skill sets and aptitude could have been inflated which I found to be the case with my previous employer, and the job turned out to be easier than what I was told at the interview.

Hey, I also started off with a new job recently.
Well there are a lot of factors that come into the picture which may lead to stress...but its upto you how to handle it...take it up in a positive way and try to learn at every step...show everyone that you are very passionate about ure work..
You may be skeptical and feel out of place, coz everythingz new to you...but slowly you will get used to it and wont feel awkward. Its just a matter of time, you will soon become comfortable.
Do not think of quitting the job, coz if you do so...you will be going somewhere else and may get the same feelings and again think of quitting...so you cannot run away like this right?
So just give your best and dont think bout the consequences..
Wish you luck my friend...

Starting A New Job Stress

I can really relate to your post. I started a new job last week which has proven to be very, very challenging. There was A LOT of information to try to absorb in a very short period of time, which has left me feeling very overwhelmed.

The person who trained me did her best, but she wasn't the best trainer in the world. Her last day was this past Friday, so, starting tomorrow, I'm on my own. On Friday morning, I had a complete meltdown in the ladies room, even though she said I was doing fine.

I'm a perfectionist, and I think hell to a perfectionist is not having the knowledge and experience to be completely on top of your job function. You also point out some very valid points that add to the stress level, that not only is the job new, everything about it is also - the environment, the people, the phone system etc. I also find it stressful trying to mentally learn not only names of co-workers, but how their job functions relate to my own.

I think we all enjoy our own little comfort zones. When we have to leave those comfort zones, it can be very stressful. I can totally identify with your feelings of wanting to quit the position, but I would suggest just relaxing a little and giving yourself permission to make mistakes as you learn your new position. None of us like to feel unsure of ourselves, but, unfortunately, you have to deal with those feelings until you gain enough experience in your new job to feel competent again.

I wish you well with your new position. Just know that there are others (like me) out there going through the same thing you are.
