i feel practices are going the same way!

they do have a 5 min. game, after every game
for these less fortunate kids, they keep no score

This is awful, talk to the coach about this. If he is still being a jerk, report him to the league or rec. services. Isn't it sad that people do this to kids just because they are not the 'elite athletes?' No wonder we have an obesity problem in America, those kids were probably never 'good enough' to participate in sports so they just gave up!

how does the coach ignore the kids if the other 5 have to "sit and rest", basketball is a five person game, so he has to put someone in. does he just make hand signs at the others? this seems a bit over exaggerated. so the coaches, and apparently the refs are ignoring these kids, because they get no foul calls and no score keeping. seems extremely overexaggerated. SCRUB GAME? (are u sure the other kids arent just in like a team B or something? which would explain they're not playing in the main game?) I have never seen an extra game being played for kids who got no minutes. And i would assume you need the other team to have 5 kids to run this scrub game as well. and ur team only has 4 to run?? so does one of the star kids play with teh scrubs to give them 5??

I played when i was in grade school too. i was not the star but still recieved an okay amount of minutes...usually about one entire quarter, while the better players would play nearly the entire game and would refuse to come out. Most coaches (and assistant coaces) for younger grades like these are the childrens fathers, and will obviously give their own kids the most attention, minutes, and starting positions. Parents want to see their kids win.

If you really want to change the system, I suggest asking to be involved in the team, as an assistant coach or just talking to the PTA more about it.

umm yeah he isnt a bad coach even though there not good players they need to get some time i started the whole season this year for freshman bball in high school and when we had a comfortable lead my coach would let the less skilled players play or even if we wer losing real bad or like the last 2 minutes of the game if it isnt a close one
umm about 9 players always played every game and there was about 4 players taht didnt have good grades to play but they still got their time so yeah kick the coaches *** lol

I know where you are coming from. While in the military i had the opportunity to coach a boy's team age's 8-17. Alot of parents would be really mad when i'd send in players with little experience in a close game. Sometimes we'd lose sometimes we'd win.

All my players knew that it didn't matter to me what the score was win or lose everyone was going to play in every game. I didn't play favorites.

I remember early one season one humiliating loss we sustained 108-24, although it was somewhat humiliating to lose by that many points atleast everyone played and it was a full team effort. I thought i'd lose my job coaching as so many parents were so mad at me and complaining to the league management that i didn't care about winning games.

I do like to win, although we lost a few games by some very lopsided scores. We did make the playoff's for our league, and that team that had crushed us early on in the season we tromped them big-time in the final game 33 to 32. Everyone played in that game.
I give my players confidence in themselves, and lots of practice, and it's up to my players to do the rest.
Some coaches are just worthless and should never coach any team.

The coach is ignorant it is a public school team everyone on the team has the right to play. It is about the kids having a good time with one another no winning.

Talk to the coach, especially if this is a recreational team. At this age, everyone deserves playing time as no kid is a complete standout at 3rd/4th grade, let alone five. Talk to the coach, and stress the importance of teamwork and developing each of the kids, rather than favoring short-sided wins.

THAT IS OBSURED that coach should be fired in 3rd/4th grade basketball it should be equal playing time. It's jsut not fair for the "4 little boys" I understand if this is high school ball and the coach wants to go to state but not for 3rd or 4th grade come on.

yea thats pretty mean, maybe the coach think that the better players have better potiential then the ones who don't, because the 5 who play show more effort during practice maybe?

for the people who don't play that u are talking about, tell them that they need to show that they can mak a difference in the game by working hard in practice.

You're never going to get ANYWHERE talking to the coach or the principal. Go straight to the school board. If they won't listen, call the local TV stations and see if they'll do a story.

You WILL get heard then!

every kid at that age should play no matter their ability..he should be taken care of and let go by someone thta will let the other kids play...it should be like little league..every kid MUST play otherwise it is a forfeit.he wants to win at all costs.no mater how many feelings he is hurt..i hope one day he gets a pay back by one of those kids that ride the bench..if i was the coach all kids would play especially at that level, where they are their to learn to play the game...0my little league coach made sure we played every game but of the course of the years we started at least once at every position
