Well define cruel. Cruel could be anything from raising a voice to cutting that dogs paw off with a hack saw. If you kill an animal there shouldn't be anypunishment as long as it was painless. If you kick an animal hard or shoot it with a pelletgun, the same should happen to you. You shoot a dog with a pellet then you get shot with a pellet.

Picking up the dog mess in the park.

And eating it.

I was going to put something a little more profound, but Sue beat me to the punch. Punishing people isn't going to solve the problem. If anything, it will make it worse.

Though I do kindof like the publishing names in the paper bit. Nothing like a good ol dose of embarrassment to help people make a change.

I think there are a lot bigger problems in the world than wasting tax dollars defending animals. There are humans starving in 3rd world countries right now. There are humans starving in modernized countries.

What should the punishment for animals who maul humans be?

I agree 100% with you. I believe that punishment for animal cruelty should be the same as if the crime were committed against another human. Only worse!!

They should be fined and their names should be published in local dailies mentioning their cruel act.

Having said that it is equally important that animal lovers step up their vigilance against such people.

Cruelty begets cruelty. If a child is abused and neglected he will be an abuser when he grows up.
So you see instead of punishing anyone should we not make sure every child is free from abuse and neglect?
