I am so fed up with how our justice system is ran!!! I can't beleive the things people are doing (as in crime, ect.) and then getting sentences that are completely irrelevant to what they had done. A man who helped bury a murdered womans body was sentenced 10 DAYS IN JAIL!!!, 4 years probation, and 40 hrs community service... He deserves way more than that. To me, it just seems everyone is getting off easy for the type of crime they commit!!

I was watching a true movie about Charles Starkweather. In the winter of 1958 he and his 14 yr old girlfriend went on a killing spree. He was caught and his trial was in May 1959 and he was sentenced to death. The death sentence was carried out in June 1959. Amazing how swift justice was then. In March of 1999 (40 yrs later), my niece was kidnapped, raped, tortured, strangled and buried in a shallow grave. She was 20 yrs old and did not know her murderer. Five months previous to her he had done the same to another college student. Three weeks after they caught him. He confessed and showed them where he buried the bodies. There was physical and DNA evidence. There was no question he did it. It took two years for his trial to even start. He was found guilty and sentenced to death. They informed her parents it would take at least five years before they could assign an attorney to start his appeals processes he was entitled to. Six years have passed since and they haven't even assigned an attorney yet. There are so many things wrong with our justice system and yet, it is difficult to believe, but with everything wrong with it - it is still the best justice in the world. One person can make a difference. One person can change things. Are you that person? I hope so. It needs changing.

Without seeing or hearing the evidence, I would say that the problem was most likely an ill-prepared prosecution. We send a Jury to deliberation with instructions that they must find a person guilty beyond a reasonable doubt or acquit. If the prosecutor did not foresee and discredit alternate scenarios, shame on him. Remember that the man's previous conviction could not be a point of consideration for the jury. From what I read, ya, the man probably was guilty, but worse yet, he should not have been walking around free in the first place if he was convicted of raping a child. Yes, I do believe in the death penalty for things like murder and rape.

Wouldn't you like to get rid of some of these terrible judges? There was just a show on PBS on the Rehnquist Supreme Court. It told how Justice Brennan swayed the Court to criminal's rights because of the discrimination against blacks in the southern states. He got a majority of the other justices to agree that criminals could appeal to the Federal Courts so they wouldn't be stuck in the state courts, which Mr. Brennan decided were not so fair.
This happened before Rehnquist.

Now all criminals have more rights than anyone law abiding, especially more than their victims!
This came from building on Justice Brennan's
leniency.

The founding fathers wanted our judges to be referees. Nothing more.

Democrats want them to be social engineers. One more conservative on the Supreme Court and the pendulum will swing the other way. That's every reason to vote republican in 2008.

Unfortunately, as much as many people don't want to hear it, it's the liberal, activist judges that are tossing the guilty onto the street....by public demand...and overcrowded prisons. I guess they don't take aiding and abetting a murderer as a serious offense these days.

its the softhearted secular-progressives tearing away at our nations heart. End times man, end times. Criminals getting extremely soft sentences and law enforcement officers getting 20 years for shooting a drug smuggler entering the US illegally. hmm smells like a stench from the bench.

You can thank the liberals and the liberal activist judges who have undermined and corrupted the legal system.
