Don't they read up about the people they are making statements?

After his electoral defeat in 1922, Winston Churchill left the Liberal Party and became the MP for Epping in 1924 standing as a ‘constitutional anti-socialist’. Stanley Baldwin, leader of the Conservative Party, appointed him as Chancellor of the Exchequer (a post he held from 1924 to 1929) and Winston Churchill officially rejoined the Conservative Party in 1925.

Is there a point? Who are all these people who keep getting it wrong?

I've never heard anyone call him a lifelong liberal, but I try not to talk to idiots.

You're right, he was a member of the Conservative Party, a total hawk, and an opponent of Keynesian economics.

I don't know how anyone could make that mistake.

*UPDATE*

iwasnotanazipolka, this is true, but it's not about the "Conservative Party"

Churchill was an economic conservative, he was a champion of free trade and opposed the welfare state. (He hated communism, socialism, and fascism)

His positions on social issues were mixed, but I don't feel that's important.

And, he was obviously a hawk, the hawk to end all hawks.

The use of American label "conservative" shows the egocentric nature some Americans. What is conservative in UK politics is not the same as in American politics.

I haven't seen anyone talking about this issue.

Why do people even care either way. I hear he died a few years back. It is not like he is scheduled to be on Donahue next week. Jeez.

But he didn't say this;

Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains."

Because they hear things here and there but don't really learn about them.
