I swear I have tried it all...meditation, warm milk, ambien, tylenol pm, no work in bed, waking up early (I get up naturally around 8-9am, but try to wake up by 6am- 7am), counting sheep (surprisingly the most effective), reading, watching tv. My sleeplessness is a big problem because I am always tired, plus my husband hates me having the tv on when he is trying to sleep
-->leads to him yelling at me. For as long as I can remember I have had trouble sleeping. Even when I do fall asleep, I wake up 3-4 times a night. I have had a physical and seem to be healthy overall. Any other ideas?

So far some good suggestions. Exercise seems to be a biggy. I do exercise about 4 days per week. Maybe I will change the time that I work out to the evening. Thinking about it, I am wondering if my sleep patterns are poor because I work non-traditional hours that vary daily?? I have been to the doctor...hence the Ambien, which helps me to fall asleep, but doesn't keep me asleep. I don't know...

Oh yes...the bed is quite comfortable. We just bought our bed in august, because I was convinced that my poor sleeping was due to our uncomfortable bed. we have expensive sheets (wedding gift) and a memory foam pillow top...so comfy. Re: the orgasm...guys fall asleep...I just want more :0)

Try exercising more often, it will help use up excess energy and might help you fall asleep earlier.
You could also try going to bed an hour earlier and listening to music. I can fall asleep to anything but I personally like Kent (because their songs are not too hard and sound really nice) and The Damned's "Phantasmagoria" album.
Then again you might not like those bands, but the point is that music can help relax and soothe your mind.

I tried Ambien and Tylenol PM. They worked in the beginning and then stopped after a short period of time. I have now been taking Trazodone for several years now. I would ask for a different sleeping pill to help you out. There are many others out there that work differently than Ambien that may help you. You can be healthy and still have a sleep disorder. Good luck on getting a good nights rest.

Only go to bed when you feel sleepy, keep the room very dark, also use something to drowned out noise like a fan or sound machine. also make sure the room isnt too warm as this can keep you from faalling asleep.

Screw medication, try this and tell me if it works:
Go to a health store and buy Valerian root capsules and Melatonin capsules. Start off by taking the reccomended dosage of each right before bedtime and increase it steadily as needed. See if that helps.

Do you work out? They say that helps. Warm shower/bath before bed helps me. Or try going to the doctor. There are specific types of doctors that focus on just treating sleep disorders. Good luck.

The calming effect of yoga really helps. Plus, if you do not feel tired and sleepy, do not lay in bed. Get up and do something active. If all else fails you could always go see a 'sleep specialist".

I had the same problem as you...then where others failed two things worked:):
(1) great physical exhaustion, so i would suggest u try working out till u drop dead tired, kick ur shoes off n get into bed n u wld soon b sleeping
(2) try yoga with music (i did sudarshan kriya from art of living programme) n boy i couldnt imagine i slept the longest:)

Might not seem like a healthy idea but a nightcap does the trick for me. I've been having a drink or two for the last 3 years every night.
