At the end, in the credits they list the main characters: Dorothy, Tin Man, etc, then after Aunt Em and Uncle Henry they list Nikko. Who was he? I know he wasn't a Munchkin.

Only speaking parts were given credit, so it wasn't a monkey. Toto was Toto. Nikko was the name of the character, not the actor's real name, which was Pat Walsh. I think at the end, when the Wicked Witch is melting, she wails, "Nikko! I'm melting!" Thats the only reference to that name I have heard in the movie - and I've see it at least 30 times. Still stumped!

Nikko was the main, smaller flying Monkey that you see inside the witch's castle. Pat Walshe is the little person that played him. In the original script, Nikko is a bigger character, but after cuts to the original, lengthy film, his part became smaller. I also seem to remember something about his wings being smaller or clipped so that the witch could control him.
I'm a Wizard of Oz collector and have attended festivals and conventions, so I know, in fact, that Nikko is the leader of the flying monkeys.
