It's not necessarily that they're not honest - it's moreso that they take aspects of using a Mac that most computer-users wouldn't like, and make it sound like it's a convenience. For example, the commercial where they are both in boxes and the Mac is ready right out of the box, but the PC has to be put together.
Don't get me wrong, Macs do have their advantages - but, to be honest, the commercials piss me off to the point where I am actually less likely to purchase one.
One of the primary arguments that Mac fanboys make is that software for Windows such as Office and Internet Explorer will run on a Mac. Well, whoopdie ******* doo! What about all of my hardcore 3D games and high-powered movie editing software that requires more than 'cutting and pasting clips'? There's more to a PC running Windows than IE and Office... trust me. Even is there weren't... why spend hundreds of dollars extra to do this on a Mac when you can buy a budget PC system?
Besides the fact that most of the arguments that Macs are better are more-so based on OSX rather than the actual hardware. Big deal, OSX is based on the stable Unix system. Do people not realize that Microsoft actually assisted in the development of the first GUI that OSX is built on?
Plus, more and more 'PC hardware' is becoming usable with Mac systems. Other than the OS, they are basically becoming a PC themselves. As for the stability and security issue - stability is questionable. I know many people who have gotten extremely frustrated with their Mac due to lock-ups and shut-downs - whatever. The security thing, however, is true. Though, as most would say - why waste time exploiting a security hole in a system that only holds what... 3% of the market share? If you were going to build a malicious program, wouldn't you go after the big dogs? Therefore, it's lack in popularity is what is most advantageous to it's security.
Okay, I'm done ranting.

Sort of, there are man things to take intro consideration, not many computer games are made for Macs but that is changing, but in general when one is using a computer just for (or at least most of the time) for video a Mac is usually the better buy. Microsoft (although not the sole word on PCs) is trying to change that especially with the new Windows Vista. Another thing that Apple uses to get people to switch to using a Mac is the number of viruses out for the PC, a Mac is less likely to get a Virus, but that can be attributed to the fact that there are not as many Macs out as there are PCs. So, there is some truth to their commercials, but there are somethings that still prevent people from switching to Macs. It goes back to preference of the consumer, I personally have a PC and love it, but I also know people have have both, and people who have just Apple computers.

Macs have their place in the PC world.. Mostly for certain graphics and pictures.. Only reason being is that they use the "KISS" method of work. (Keep It Simple Stupid)...
The only reason PCs are less stable is because of the lawsuits that Microsoft keeps encountering... Every time you turn around MS has to release information on how to program for their system. Leave this and that open for developers etc…
Look at the software available for PCs VS Mac… No wonder Mac has more stability in its OS. They really are limited, people don’t over load their OS with junk…..
I’ve worked on both for years… What am I on now??? A PC based clone. A GOOD PC based clone. Yes there are differences. Different motherboards and CPUs have to use different routing methods not to infringe upon patented technology. So you get unstable sometimes. I’ve seen older software run on a good board and older software crash on a cheap one.
You get what you pay for… And 99% of the time it doesn’t have to be the most expensive.
As for your question.. GREAT ONE...
As for the Answer... NO, they really arn't honest in my opinion.

i dont understand if there is any actual solutions in here, yet here is a few random strategies I easily have on the problem which i will or would possibly no longer have made up: -on an identical time as its actual that many vista shoppers are disillusioned, those mac categorized classified ads extremely exaggerate it. -the actual fact is mac os x 10.4 has been out for years and no person's complained approximately it, nor has any microsoft classified ads ever bashed it. -i do think of that xp is the main suitable os microsoft could ever come out with (its the only domicile windows os i can use w/o complaining) yet having extensively utilized vista, i think of microsoft could have taken an excellent step backward. to no longer point out thier loss of originality or creativity. (the entitre interface copies the mac interface right down to the comparable colours) -and to the guy who suggested vista eighty million, leopard 2 million, could i merely say leopard's been out for purely some weeks, and 10.4 is so good, no longer all seem to need/want it. vista has been out particularly some months, and that i've got a feeling a number of those copies could have been back or trashed in want of xp. i could.

For me they have been so far. I always feared owning a mac and figured it would be rather difficult to learn but when those commercials came out it sort of got me intrigued. I did some research and got one for Christmas. I love it. I've only had one freeze up and only a handful of application hangups otherwise everything is just fine. It is very easy to navigate and very few things are different as far as key combos and whatnot. But the system seems more stable and I dont fear being taken over by malicious applications or software. Sure its not 100% sure proof but a lot of the hacks which have come out are related to a non default setting. Boot up time is maybe 45 seconds to a minute where as my PC takes nearly 3 or 4 minutes to boot up. They really are being honest with the commercials.

Pretty much. They're easier to user than PC's and have had stable OS's for years plus more features built in, which is why I would recommend one for someone not very computer savvy. (Trivia... most professional computer animations are done on high end Macs). However, the down side is that 90% of work PC's are Wintel machines and lots of people want a PC at home that's compatible with their work machine. Plus there seems to be tons more games and other software for PC's than for Macs not to mention you can go to Wal-mart and pick up anything you want practically for Wintel machines. When's the last time you saw Mac programs at Wal-mart, Target or K-Mart?

Computers are limited by the user. Some people like Macintrash...Some people like WinSlows....it really doesn't matter...as long as the user is happy. Personally i own a PC...compatibility is what i was looking for...
Macs really use a Linux Platform anyway...

Mac was always a better machine with a better operating system, just the victim of a poor marketing strategy 25 years ago, much the same way Beta-max was superior to VHS but lost due to poor market stategy.

my own overall impression is a mac is better if you want to do a lot of one thing- like music/video editing, for example-, and a windows pc is a better little bit of everything computer. It's supposed to be more stable, and less of a target for malware and hackers.

Macs are great now that they have Intel processors. This change now lets Macs run Windows and Mac software. Prior to the chip change, Macs could only run Mac software(which was limited). Plus, they look cool. :)
