Can't help with the BIOS thing (?), but my 7 year old laptop is sort of crabby sometimes, and the fan will go "r. r. r. rr. rrrRRRRR!", if that makes any sense. A can of cleansing duster air has helped significantly. A $13 quick fix, and good for all pet owners whose furry friends sabotage our computers.

Well, you know that your laptop fan is working, if your laptop is working. For all computers, desktop, and laptop; the BIOS is designed to shut the computer off, and not let it start up again if the fan is operating improperly.

You will hear your fan come off and on. Listen closely. To keep to BIOS in my computer is to tap F2 continually when you first turn on your computer.
