This is a quote from William Gibson's "Neuromancer," a book released in 1987 before the Internet was even big and people still thought of it as science fiction.
Gibson's definition of the Internet is: "A consensual hallucination experienced daily by billions of legitimate operators, in every nation, by children being taught mathematical concepts...
