Zidane as awesome as he is as a person and a footballer is a man with flaws. If he could go back, he would not repeat his mistake.
Materazzi...... is the smartest ignoramus that I know.
That one incident totally changed the game and shifted the momentum allowing the Italians to hold on and win on PKs.

Those who play soccer know taunts and insults are commonly used on the field, it's unavoidable. Much debate over the Zidane-Materazzi incident has gone on since the World Cup Finale and, obviously, still carries on today.
What was said between Materazzi and Zidane will only be known by the two (despite lip readers, well....lip reading of the scene). It seems evident that Materazzi did in fact say some sort of insult to Zidane given Zidane's reaction. In my opinion though, no taunt or insult can justify the actions of Zidane. If I headbutted someone everytime they've made some rude remark about my family I'd have a few unlucky bastards on the floor gasping for air right now.
Materazzi found a way to get under Zidane's skin. Zidane reacts by headbutting him full force to the ground and then says..."well he made fun of my mom...". All of it is childish really, just like we're in elementary again. Kid makes fun of another kid, the other kid decides pushing or punching him in the face is the best option because they don't know how else to react to it. Both are at fault. One for being ignorant in his manner of speaking and the other for being ignorant in his choice of action and disability to possess self-control.
All in all, it did make some pretty funny animations in the end.....didn't it?

I would have taken offense too. But Zidane is sportsman and a much senior player compare to Materrazzi. So he should have left him and scored the winning goal to get back at him. That would have shut Materazzi up for GOOD!

Zidane did the right thing to defend his family. I don't really like Materazzi.

i think materazzi was trying to get into zidane's head as he was the key player, zidane should have waited for the end of the game then dealt with him

Well, Materazzi is nice player but not a nice person I guess, this what he had told to Zizou was a way too much..I understand Zidane..
But isnt it a story being discussed for too long?;d

I think Zizzou could have handled it differently or at least waited 15 minutes to do it. I think Materazzi didn't feel like he got away with anything. That looked like it freaking hurt.

this has been discussed and debated many many times.
I think Zidane had his reasons for doing what he did, but two wrongs do not make a right. So he shouldn't have done it but I love Zidane anyway.
Materazzi is a serial headbuttee. He has been headbutted by Shevchenko, Zidane, and some other player from Serie A. He's just asking for trouble, in my opinion. That fcuker.

Everone makes mistakes. It was bad for Zizou to headbutt Materrazi but Materazzi shouldn't have provoked him by insulting his mother. Anyway, it is history and everyone already learnt the lessons that needed to be learnt.
