Exactly. Basically it's a kind of sociological sense of acceleration; like you are constantly becoming more productive and valuable to the world as you gain more material possession (almost as if you feel as sense of accomplishment as if you had created what you buy yourself). This also applies to being famous as people equate having more people like them as having more to give to the world (and often forget quality means more than quantity).
I grew up in an upper-class family and realize money, short of being too poor to afford decent medical treatment, does NOT buy health (my girlfriend's family, most of who work minimum-wage jobs has grandparents who live 95+, my oldest grandparents were 85-ish).
Far as fame: think about it; is it any use having 20000 "friends" (vs. about 7 good friends) if all of the 20000 could just as easily be fair weather friends who just "want to be seen with you"? It's not such a rosy deal after all, and you end up worrying about publicity and other issues along with that, it's not the "carefree life" people dream it up to be.
Another theory I have is that people use it in exchange for talents they don't have. If people don't have talent at attracting the opposite sex and/or are sick of being viewed as "powerless" or "imperfectly popular" (often they want everyone to stare at them and think "wow he/she's so powerful/famous and rich". Basically they use money to try and buy these things. Although, as Paul McCartney says "I don't care so much for money...money can't buy me love"...and same goes for fame. But it offers the PROMISE of such things...which , to many people, is enough in and of itself.
Another side of this is some people think skill and influence (or the ability to live a life free of worries like rent and work) are built of money. For example, buy the world's most expensive studio and instruments and you can become the world's greatest musician. Or, make enough money and you can tell people to do whatever you believe in for you (IE start a business that basically manages itself while you sit at home and rest).
Think of Richard Bronsen (sp.?) of Virgin Media who owns his own island and started Virgin Records "because he thought it would be fun".
But the fact is, influence is built primarily and hard work, creativity, and talent...and even though money can start a great business up it takes more to keep one going.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
And, PERHAPS MOST IMPORTANTLY even for the people who, for example, get such an inheritance they don't have to work at all and can sit around lazy...guess what....more likely than not they lose sense of purpose because they don't get the sense of productivity and "being depended on for / meaning something to the world" most people get from their daily jobs.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
But happiness through greed is like trying to gain more youthful energy by eating a diet of more and more sugar over time. Sure it gives you a boost, but (being rich or that kind of diet) leaves you seeking more, not being happier.

Nothing, it's just curiosity that makes us want to see how the other half lives. There are rich and famous people who contribute heavily to various charities and activist groups. It's a shame that all of them don't--though some of them may not want their names known when they contribute to charities.
I've never had a lot--sometimes it's hard just to get by. I am not a greedy person, but would like to know that all of the bills are paid, and there is enough food in the house. The celebrities of today are very overrated, and very over paid. It didn't used to be like that several decades back.

You make rich and famous - great. If you don't hold these people in high esteem then you don't think of them as rich and famous. If for example some girl named Brittaney had no talent but showed her privates, would that make national news, only if you thought she was of some importance.
greed vs. success, is just and individuals attitude. There are plenty of successful people who are not in your face.

Sometimes being rich and famous just falls on your lap - for example, being borned into a rich and famous family.
One time I met a famous cartoonist. His strip was known the world over, obviously rich yet he was able to maintain his anonomity. A few months later I saw him shopping at Kmart. How more down to earth can you get?

Being rich and famous is not about greed. Rich and famous people are extremely dynamic and self driven and very successful at what they do for which they are remunerated well for. If you don't want to be that way than it is pointless for you but that is not their problem, is it?

Personally I wouldn't mind being rich without the famous part.lol I don't really understand people's obsession with movie stars and rich/famous people. Their lives are so different than mine that I can't relate to how they live and interact. I guess people just find their lives facsinating. To me, it is bizarre that you look at them and they seem to have everything anyone could ever want, yet their lives are so often in turmoil. I'll choose where I am....poor and infamous.

The rich and famous are just like you and me. but they aren't really living paycheck to paycheck.
People seem to need some stresses in their life. I worry about the car payment and rent... rich people agonize about the same things but on a different scale. they still pay taxes and mortgages, and buy food. they just tend to buy more expensive things simply because they can.
if they have everything paid for they stress about a new nose, or a new yacht or whatever....when my bills are paid i think about a new t-shirt or a new music cd...
I think it's all about the same things on different scales. like the addage goes "the more you make, the more you spend!"

Yes rich they are like you and me.
Money needs a master of spending wisely also luck is involved here.
People who say that money don't bring happiness those people don't now what money is and are actually jealous on people who have some money.
Money is easy when you have it, you even buy health with it because without money you can't buy good medicines and treatment.
Everyone can have money if they really want it with the right job or selling the right product.
And yes money brings happiness believe it or not.

they can have anything they want at the snap of their fingers. something like the classic picture of royalty. it's a bunch of powerful people, good looking, with no big problems in life. something that seems like the perfect life. and since wecant have the perfect life, we want to get as close to those with it as we can.
greed = power
