It's mostly a state of mind. Why can't anyone be happy all alone? If you enjoy what you're doing alone and you believe you're happy, how can you not be happy? I think the word solitary was created to indicate the joy of being alone, as compare to loneliness.
Nevertheless, I can't say external influence totally have no effect on happiness. It does, to a certain extent. Good ones will make you happier, and bad ones will bring you down.
But then, how do you define happiness? How many people are trully happy in this world?

Without your mind, you couldn't experience the subjective state of 'happiness' external things make you 'happy' because of internal processes thoughts about events, people, etc or behaviors... eating feels good when you are hungry, sex feels good but again it goes back to the body and brain and thus would be interpreted as good and it makes me happy...yes you can be happy all
alone but not all the time because having no social contacts at all can cause psychological problems/pain and it isn't normal to see/feel pain as good nor would it cause you to think/feel happiness...
yes happiness is a state of mind, external events, etc influence it and some can be happy all alone but it isn't recommended for optimal mental/physical health and happiness...

It is state of mind, but there's also an external influence. I don't think a person could be happy alone, all alone.

I'm happy alone. But I think I'm one of the few.
That being said, I still think happiness is a state of mind.

happiness is a state of mind yes the reason i say that is because you become happy when you get what you want..if you want to be alone and are alone then you will be happy, if you want chocolate and you get chocolate then you will be happy..you can change your mind day to day or even minute to minute so what makes you happy can change at anytime

Happiness can be from both,,,,, from ourselves and from outside influence....
Sometimes we fell lonely even when we are in the middle of a happy crowd,,,,,
Sometimes we feel blissfully happy even when we are all alone with just our self...
I think we make our own happiness,,,,,, and people loving us adds more sweetness to that happiness ...

yes, you could be alone and be happy. Sometimes when we are with our friends, we feel so lonely. It depends of how we feel and what we want from ourselves. I think happiness is when we could satisfy our needs. when we create something such as a piece of writing, a painting, a poem, we feel a great happiness, much more than when we are with a friend.

Somewhat a state of mind, though physical comfort is needed. If you're in searing pain, I'm afraid happiness will be rather elusive!

i think one could. but of course would have to have that state of mind and probably would have helped to not been exposed too much into society, but more god and nature.
