Yes but seeing that she had no electricity, it was a flatiron, made out of real iron. Actually she probably had several. You'd put it on the stove to heat and then iron with it. When it cooled, you'd return it to stove and iron with a different one.

yes the irons at that time were made of heavy metal and heated on the stove or in the fireplace.

Yes she heated it up on the cook stove. For steam she just sprinkled water on the clothing.
