A feature story can be about almost anything you want it to be. Picking a person you think is interesting for something they are doing is an easy way to come up with a feature story. Or pick something you'd like to learn more about and go ask questions of the people doing it or involved with it. You probably will end up focusing on something you didn't even know about when you started.
Check postings at your local library for upcoming events, find out what the local scout troop is up to these days, ask some one who works at a nursing home if any of the residents have told interesting stories and then ask to interview them, check with the local veterans organization and do a story about someone who just came home, call up a salt truck driver from the Department of Transportation and interview them about their job and highway safety, ANYTHING... Good Luck!

I would see if there are any festivals or cultural events going on around you in the community and do an article on one that you actually attend. For example, in Salt Lake City we have a Greek Festival, Oktoberfest (German), a Swedish festival, a Scottish festival, various Hispanic festivals, etc. Another possibility is to find a restaurant that is unique in some way and do an article about that. If you are into sports you could do a sports event that is also aimed at raising money for a specific cause, like a marathon or bike ride.

Topics for a feature article are numerous. First, you need to find
a subject that many people are interested in hearing (reading)
about. Then, thoroughly research that subject to gather as much
positive info as you can. Present your subject (topic) in the most
favorable way and don't give ANY of the negatives you may have
found. Praise and laud that topic for all it's worth. By the way, in
case you don't already know, feature articles are between 200 and 1,200 words. Good luck.
