You might want to check your weekly adds for Best Buy and the sort to see what specials they have going on... for $1000, you are probably going to have to buy an off the shelf system. Sorry I can't be more descriptive but I really don't look into the lower end models much. I usually gear my PC's towards gaming platforms which means a personaly assembled machine costing 3-4K

get a good mother board from asus like the a8n32sli and if you are doing graphics work get and amd processor with 2 ghz speed and get a 17'' monitor since you are doing graphics work and ultimately get a good graphics card from asus or ge force with 256 mb memory . you should atleast have 512 mb of ram minimum and buy a seagate harddisk of 120 gb and you are ready to rock n roll. for a cd drive go fro the sony dru810a dvd writer its the best i know because it can even play highly scratched disks

Macs are good for this type of thing but you might not have enough cash. You will also need a very good graphics card and decent high dpi monitor.
Get hold of a technically aware friend and go shopping. You might also find some bargains on eBay, but again you'll need the advice of your techie friend.

You don't need to spend that much on a computer. It also depends on if you want a laptop or a tower. A tower will cost you less and you can get more for your money. If you do allot of graphics you may want to go with a computer with at least a gig of memory. -Bob

Check out the new HP Pavilion Slimlines. They are small and powerful and not too expensive. They seem to have it all and are not too expensive. Walmart can't keep them in stock I noticed. They're becoming a real hot item. Get one with Vista Premium and wireless.

It relies upon on your motherboard. in my opinion i'd deliver the entire pc to the shop for added information. i do not imagine the RAM is the area it should be the processor Get a Pentuim 4 in the experience that your pc has XP in it and for RAM 1GB may be good
