Start as a freelance writer for any number of publications in your area. Once you've established yourself in print apply for a full time position. Freelancing is the best way to get yourself in print and show your skills to potential employers.

I was 26 when I went back to school and got my degree...and there were people in my program who were almost 40. It's never too late, but make sure you choose a program that has internships...it makes a world of difference when you already have contacts when you head out into the workforce
