I think that is overblown hype.
First of all, there is no way to predict what the worl population will be in 40 years. Birthrates in first world countries have dropped considerably and the birthrate in third world countries continue but the mortality rate is also high. As the population ages, more death by old age will take place.
Nature has its own way of weeding out the gene pool. I'm not going to get too tore up about it.
I have three kids and would not give up a single one of them. Each will contribute to society in a way we haven't even thought of yet. Population control takes future leaders who could change the world out of the picture.
Just something to think about.

From http://www.deathroe.com/Pro-life_Answers (and people, don't miss the sarcasm, okay?):
"It is debatable whether overpopulation is a problem or not. Some recent data suggests that a bigger problem is declining birth rates which do not even replenish existing populations. However, if overpopulation is a problem, why limit our options to killing the unborn? It would be easy to put a legal limit on life at the other end as well, and enforce it through mandatory euthanasia at a pre-determined age. At the very least, we should immediately outlaw any medical research that’s intended to extend life. After all, if overpopulation really is a problem, it makes no sense to spend billions of dollars every year looking for ways to make people live longer.
In fact, whether it’s prohibitions on research or mandatory euthanasia, bumping off the elderly makes more sense than killing the unborn. The elderly use up more of our resources and they put a tremendous strain on our health care system. With our population growing older, and the baby boomers starting to retire, this plan could be exactly what we need to save Medicare and Social Security."
I hope you get the point. Killing innocent human beings is always wrong, regardless of their age. The real problem is not overpopulation or lack of resources, but corrupt governments who keep help from their people.
Take a look at what abortion actually does to the unborn:

Every single person on the planet could fit in Texas, with a couple of square feet each. Don't you think that the whole rest of the planet could sustain them if it weren't for wars and such keeping resources out of the hands of the starving? Right now, 2/3 of the people on the planet survive on $2/ day or less. There are 6 billion people alive today. 9 billion would be 1.5 times as many. Surely they could survive quite well on $1.50/ day if we addressed the root causes of their misery, like war and globalization. Population will not be a limiting factor on this planet for a million years; how we deal with the population will come to the forefront much sooner. It's a matter of wills, not ills.

The answer....No. We cannot really stop the growth that is causing overpopulation. Nor can we fix all the other problems that are slowly destroying the world. Pollution , Genocide, Rampant decadence, Global warming , Crime, War, Immorality,Pornography, Rape, Irresponsible mass media, on, on, God made the world to last only so long and time is running out no matter what.

I think you are missing the point, those ideas are too gross and do not prevent the problem.
Would be better to promote birth control, and vasectomy, and on the more radical side family planing (one couple one or two children). But forget about it, in theory it sounds practical but in reality it will never be. The Church is the first to oppose those ideas, they always say "Have all the children you can, God will provide (food and shelter)".
At the end we will use again the oldest population control tool: war.

actually, the overpopulation can be controlled through human control. if you look at the stats the economic lower 50% of the worlds pop created 75% of the the children born inthe past 6 years. lack of education and poverty created unwanted children - many of these people could not afford abortions, so now we have children that cant afford to survive
chemical castration of criminals and welfare recipients who abuse the system are the ways to go. overpopulation solved
plus, when the war with china starts, we'll lose 1.000.000 at least

What! You've never heard of contraceptives ? Or maybe we should have a war once or twice every five years just to keep things in check.
What ever else, I'm not volunteering for anything!

We will never resort to that. Religion has to great a hold on this world. "Can't kill the innocent". They may go for euthanasia. As long as you survive child berth no matter how miserable a life you lead does not matter, because you were innocent. Who cares what you are now. Promote condom use.
