I think the music that I hear on the radio is trash, being a musician myself, I think most of the people that are in the so called music business really have no talent what so ever they play the 3 same chords and notes they learned when they first picked up the instrument, and I really makes me angry everything sounds the same on the radio nobody is playing anything new just the same crap they've being playing for the past 5 years, rock is not rock anymore fans may say oh this is rock but man is crap really I mean all I hear is 3 notes and an idiot screaming his damn head off about how everything in life sucks...well you know what deal with it I mean if life sucks so bad for that person he/she should kill themselves to save us from the burden of listening to their crappy music...I mean what Happened seriously if all the famous dead rockstars came back to life they would be so pissed off cause what has happened to the music. What happened to Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd GN'R Black Sabbath.. its sad really

I think your question means that your musical tastes have evolved and now you can distinguish great music and pop. I
totally understand you, because I have close to 500 CD's and
still I pull my hair out sometimes, yelling "THERE'S NOTHING TO LISTEN TO!!"

Try to open up to a variety of different types of music that's on the top 40. You will find perhaps one good song you like from the forty songs. This happens to me once every...four months (if I'm lucky!) :o)

The last music that I absolutely got hooked on was back in 1999!
Now the "Alternative Music" turnaround time is so slow so I am also regressing through the 70's music to find that rare gem.
(I grew up in the 80's)

Some recent "Classic" finds that I now enjoy (for your ridicule/amusement) are:
Dream On-Aerosmith
Free Bird-Lynard Skynard
Whiter Shade of Pale-Procol Harum
Elton John stuff
Scorpions ballads

New finds:
Fallout Boy-
before Fallout Boy was Killers, and that was 3 years ago.
Before Killers was Radiohead in 1999 with "OK Computer",
which I absolutely hated at first. (OK Computer became the
musical yardstick that I used to gauge all other music subsequently for five years afterwords!)

Real gems are very hard to find, but
don't get stuck. Keep your ears open and give the current songs
a good listen once or twice. You might like some.

The great music of the '80s and '90s is still round, and of course Garbage really wasn't. The music of today is awesome! So are the '50s and '60s! Of course what maks the music of the '80s through today great is the ALTERNATIVE ROCK!

Forget the early 90s. Great music stopped in the early 90s. The music today is total trash. There is no originality. There are too many remakes of older songs. The remakes sound worse than the original. Too many artists don't have staying power because they sing commerical pop tunes that don't have any depth or meaning. Many songs have lyrics that mean absolutely nothing. Sometimes artists sound like they are making up the words as they go along.

ME! Exept I miss the late 90's music - Ska was awesome. Unfortunately, it was brutally murdered and is never coming back.

I totally agree - (Popular) music today it just poor excuses for talent. Depending on your musical taste (Assuming you like 80s/90s stuff), you might want to check out some of these somewhat obscure bands:

Cake
Buckethead
Coheed and Cambria
Liquid Tension Experiment
The Matches

Also, try ska! Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish, and The Planet Smashers are all amazing. That's where I found my refuge from (c)rap and other horrible popular music.

Iam not sure if it's garbage or not but I for one cannot understand what they are saying. I try but no use. If people would just sing clearly. As for the music of the 80s and 90s I pick my favorite CDs and just shut the world out.

I so agree with you!! Now days you cannot listen to anything because it has so much cussing in it and that just grieves my Spiritman! If you watch any videos all the dancers are half naked. The only person we really had to worry about in the 80's and90's was Cher and she was really pushing it back then. I have alot of 80's and 90's music that I just love and I don't mind letting my kids listen to it because the music has no cussing in it!! They should bring that music back!!!

Honestly, good music can still be found if you're willing to look hard enough. It may be that the good music doesn't sell anymore, but it is still being made. Most of the talent out there will never be brought to huge commercial success. I would suggest that you look DEEP for artists that fit your definition of good music. Ask friends or ask on here for bands that sound like or were influenced by (insert band you like here).

I guarantee with a little research you can come out of that musical rut!

Most of todays music is indeed tosh.
80's and 90's music is all available and there are radio stations dedicated to playing it.
Which is fortuitous, because otherwise I'd be all talk radio all the time...
