Well they just cant face the truth they rounded the slaves up for us. I'm sure at the time it sounded like a great Idea for white men, to enslave the blacks. If they new then what we know now. They would have picked their own dam cotton.

Because they were the first to enslave a group of people based on race. They didn't buy them number one because they weren't slaves. They were free men who were betrayed and, technically, if they needed labor, they should have had a choice and a steady income, not a one time fee paid to some random people who didn't even own them. That's stupid. And that's not all they did. If that was all they did then African Americans would have taken over this damn country a long time ago because there's no way in hell you can tell someone to work in a damn field for stale bread and water and think theyre not going to rebel against your ***. What the white people did was regard them as (what was it?) 3/5 of a man, whip them, rape them, lynch them and so on and so on. I don't blame white people for slavery. If that was the case, I would walk around hating every white person I saw, which I don't do. Now if I saw the a**holes whose idea it was to go buy a human being or better yet the people who continued to support the dumbass explanations they came up with to justify what they were doing (dark skin is a curse, african ppl are animals and so on) I would put the blame entirely them.

No Honey they didn't just go to Africa and buy them. Like a day out.
1. They set up the climate where human trafficing was a sort after commodity for the cheapest price and the most gain possible. Greed and the lack of consideration for the Slaves who were torn away from the lives family country they knew. to be tortured, starved, abused, shackelled bred like animals and seperated for ever from loved ones.
Their dignity , freedom, was violated all in the name of commerce.
2. In many cases they set up the trading by supplying the slave ships.
You're right they weren't the only ones to blame, but if theyre wasn't a market for Slavery they would have been left to live out their lives in Africa not on a Plantation. Some horrific stories have come to light over the years from former Slaves.
I hope that answers your Question.

see white people often miss this one. it wasn't the slavery itself. It was the unusual cruelty. There is slavery, and then there is what is called chattel slavery. Lets be more accurate here. It wasn't even white people, but specifically American slavery that was so unusually cruel and brutal.

Here are some difference between slavery as it was practiced throughout the world and slavery as it was practiced in america:

1. Slave were considered human and were treated as such.
2. slaves could marry and have a family, and the family was never broken up.
3. there were laws that protected slaves from abuse from their master (and mechanisms to enforce the law)
4. Slaves could hold a job outside his masters house and save money to buy his freedom.
5. Slaves were upwardly mobile.
6. Slavery was not based on race.

So though they may not be to blame for slavery, they are to blame for the cruelty (I wont even mention the oppression that followed and persisted until th 1960's)

I dont assume the Africans who sold there enemies into slavery assumed they were going to be traited the way they did. Not that they cared.

Just have to refute the guy below. White people didn't do much capturing. The bush is just to hostile for strangers. That is why there are virtually no white people in West Africa til this day cause them mosquitos be tearin ya'll up .. lol.

Slavery has been around since the beginning of time. You have to give our European ancestors credit though.......they tried to enslave the Native Americans first. You know, after they drove them off of their own land. Unfortunately, the natives died off in droves what with warfare and no natural resistance to the white man's diseases. Between the deaths and the fact that those rascally indians were able to escape their captors easily and hide from the white man something needed to be done. They dabbled with indentured servitude for a while before happening upon African tribes. Things get tricky from there........ some Africans were sold as prisoners of warring tribes and whatnot but most African slaves were captured as whole tribes before being shipped to the United States.

By the way, I think that you mean that white people went to Africa and purchased slaves from other African American tribes. There were some Judas' in the lot, but by and large blacks were captured by white slavers.

Africans sold slaves in the 1400 and 1500's the slaves that they sold were prisoners of war, indentured servants, and criminals. Africans and Europeans actually had a positive relationship then. They traded with Europeans things like ivory, gold, etc. Things changed when Europeans began to steal Africans for slaves without regard to who they were. They began to come into Africa and capture blacks at will. They had weapons that were no match for the Africans. They did this because of the wealth of natural resources and the value of African slaves. So yes for a short period of time Europeans did buy slaves from other African but the majority of the slave trade and the most brutal was during the illegal slave trade when people were ripped from their land and family and abused. People were thrown overboard, people were crammed in on top of each other, men, women, children, elderly, it didn't matter. People were forced to urinate, defecate, and vomit where they lay, and it fell on top of other slaves. They didn't shower they ate when people felt like feeding them. Women gave birth during the journey in such filthy conditions. Women were raped. When they arrived to their destinations, they were beaten, families were again ripped apart as mothers, fathers, and children were separated and sold off to different people. It was a sad and very bloody time in history. I don't think that Blacks blame modern whites for slavery. What did you have to do with it? The problem is when people minimize the significance of and the pain associated with the facts of slavery. This is sentiment of indifference that is echoed in questions like yours.

Actually, a lot of the slave traders were African tribes who sold other Africans into slavery.

I think white people are seen as perpetuating the problem: we didn't protest in the years between 1865 and 1965 against the indecent ways that blacks were treated in America, from the lousy schools to the job discrimination.

It is bad enough whites took Africans and enslaved them, but it was even worse how they were treated. It's not as if they brought Africans to America and set them up in great housing, with healthy food, and wages for the work they did. Here is how it really happened:

1)Some slave owners killed slaves.
2)Some raped the women.
3)They purposely split up families.
4)The slaves were treated worse than animals( hard labor, not enough food, lack of proper clothing).
5)This all lasted for approx. 265 years!

This is a legitimate answer.

This is not a legitimate question. That is, unless common sense is something you truly do not possess. regardless to what color is involved, slavery is wrong.. period.
If I went out and shot someone, would it be considered okay just because I didn't make the gun? No.

Because blacks have got to have someone else to blame for everything. It's not their fault that their own race sold them. It's not their fault that over 50% wind up in prison. It's not their fault that so many of them are on welfare. It's not their fault that don't know who the baby daddy is. It's not their fault that africans have not risen above the mud hut. It's all the white mans fault
