As much loving, and attentive guidance as necessary to induce a knowlegable self-reflection, which leads to knowledge of their own ideal self they wish to be, but are yet uniformed of.
As far as material gifts, all things which lead to broader knowledge without excess is desirable, especially books, and personal experiences. Demonstartions of generous character by their community, thru personal influences and literature, however simple it may be, is highly desirable, more than erudition if they are to contribute to society, though both would be blessing. For noble character is an aid to society, and knowledge an aid to oneself, while to attain both is conducive toward harmonious unity, and thus, universally enlighted lives.
In all things, let us enable children of all to be enriched with every possibility of true fulfillment, and not place any artifical limits, particularly in their contribution to being kind guides to an ever advancing civilization.
It starts even from the womb, and after is the begining of its unfoldment, so do not be surprised if I say this for even a year old, younger and older also being bidden by such high ideals.

Baby Einstein Flash Cards.
I bought them for my son and he loved them. Now I always give them as a gift. They have big photographs of animals, toys, etc. Babies love them. They are also appropriate for 2 year olds and have large printed words on them for even older kids. You can't go wrong.

Picture books, especially the ones with hard pages so they won't rip them. Depending if they are walking or not, things like baby shopping carts, push cars that convert into cars they can ride on soon are good too.
You can't really go wrong!

Your baby seems extremely smart. you're able to get him examined. i'm unsure if it could be proper to take one yet as his know-how of interpretation of English and figurative language is probable limited. i could attempt him around 8.
