that a normal person does not have. My sister is doing a college paper on this and I' trying to help her out. I have tried to explain it but can't find the right words. I'm looking for that "thing" that we have that is hard to explain, what is it?

The ability to "hear" that which is not heard by people with no musical talent.A musician "hears and feels" music in everyday sounds and phrases that most of us don't even notice. Example:a drummer hears rhythm of a song even in something as ordinary as the rhythm of typing keys on a keyboard or typewriter or the random-appearing rhythm of fat raindrops falling on the roof of her car. A guitarist may "hear" chords in the screeching of car tires.Rather than just acknowledging that those ordinary sounds can be music they feel compelled to duplicate those sounds, improve on them, and create their own version of them.

I am not quite sure what you are trying to say. I have played guitar for about 5 years, and occasionaly drums. I would say that musicians just have more of a love for music. And love it so much that they want to create it. I think we understand music better, and are able to notice talent more then people who aren't musicians. For example, I could start picking (playing guitar) really fast, and make it sound like I have been playing guitar for 30 years, but then I could do some extremely difficult set of cords, that sound somewhat simple. It's hard to explain, isn't it!

a sense and love of creativity. artists are different than the ppl who look at art in that they must create to thrive. a musician is no no different than a poet or painter. If you read any Kerouac novel, you get the idea, his works transcend the conscious level and his words flow out like notes on the page. Rhythm and harmony. Hope this helps.

i would say an open, creative mind, while each musician performes their style of music, each has that desire to be unique, to be different

musicians also have the passion for "music" as a whole, seeing where it started, and where it is going, and how they can contribute

I think it's just a desire to express yourself with something other than words. I find that writing music is eaiser then writing lyrics, and music can be just as moving as words.

something to keep us going, a dream, a vision, something important to strum the guitar, or beat on the drums
