It vanished for what seemed like years and then it returns and vanishes again!! Anyone know what happened? Was it the end of the series that returned for a few episodes????

It WAS gone for at least 2 years. It disappeared into the TV wilderness that so happens with the Summer shows that don't rate well. "Summer TV" was over at the end of Jan - it seems to get shorter every year. The shows that don't rate well get put on over Summer (if you're lucky - we still didn't get any Gilmore Girls or Judging Amy or Joey which had been Summer staples - the first 2 anyway).
That's what the networks do - they promote new shows, get you into them, then when they don't perform well enouogh they shift them around and around and then pull them off altogether. Like Charmed that we got a whole 5 episodes of season 8 screened. (Thank goodness it's coming out on DVD this month).
If Nip/Tuck comes back it wont be 'til non-ratings time at the end of the year.
